The growing emphasis on high security sealing has resulted in greater attention of conformity to the various standards currently applicable to tamper evident security seals. ABRIC seals are designed to the highest standards and will adhere to the various security industry requirements.

U.K. Customs Acceptance

This has been a requirement for some time, and any security seal that will be used in environments overseen by U.K. and U.S. Customs need to be submitted for testing.

U.K. Customs use the Security Seal Testing Authority for seal acceptance – samples are submitted for testing in one of three categories (Class I – tensile strength in excess of 1,000kg, Class II – tensile strength in excess of 250kg and Indicative – tensile strength below 250kg); the samples will then be tested for conformity to the tensile strength requirements and subjective testing, by an industry expert, to assess the tamper evident qualities of the seal.

If a seal is successfully tested the manufacturer will be issued a certificate confirming this. All seal have to be retested every 5 years.

Current ABRIC products that have been successfully tested are Unolock, Satulock, Alulock 2.5 , MiniJawLock, HybridLock and Padlock.

ISO 17712 – Freight Containers – Mechanical Seals

ABRIC’s high security seals conform to ISO standard specification 17712. This International Standard establishes uniform procedures for the classification, acceptance, and withdrawal of acceptance of mechanical freight container seals. It provides a single source of information on mechanical seals which are acceptable for securing freight containers in international commerce.

This standard is currently at DIS stage (Draft International Standard) and once it has been in this stage for a required period of time, the standard should become an international accepted document.

The specification is available via the ISO web site and covers various aspects of security seal requirements classified under High Security, security and Indicative seals.

Current ABRIC products that have been successfully tested are our barrier seals Unolock 2.0, EinLock 8, AluLock 5.0 and AluLock 3.5. These ABRIC high security barrier seals have been certified and are ISO-PAS 17712 seals.

C-TPAT Compliance – Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism

At ABRIC, our seals are C-TPAT compliant. This is an American joint government venture aimed at enhancing supply chain and border security. The C-TPAT programme provides expedited Customs clearance for a company’s cargo, if that company has improved its security programme.

C-TPAT is a joint government-business initiative to build cooperative relationships that strengthen overall supply chain and border security.
C-TPAT recognizes that Customs can provide the highest level of security only through close cooperation with the ultimate owners of the supply chain— importers, carriers, brokers, warehouse operators and manufacturers.
Through this initiative, Customs is asking businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate their security guidelines to their business partners within the supply chain.

We at ABRIC are proud to announce that a majority of our barrier seals (such as the EinLock and UnoLock) have been awarded the certification and are C-TPAT seals.

Security Seal Industry Association

ABRIC has been an active member of the S.S.I.A. for some time, and this association has been establishing working standards for tamper evident security seals since 1992.
